F-35B Reaches Milestone With First Vertical Landing -- Fort Worth Star-Telegram

Lockheed Martin's F-35 joint strike fighter program achieved a milestone Thursday when one of the F-35B test aircraft made the first vertical landing in a flight test at Patuxent River Naval Air Station in Maryland.

The successful landing, which test pilot Graham Tomlinson said was smoother than he expected, marks several days of testing accomplishments. It follows months of bad news about the program's soaring costs and technical and production problems.
