Wikileaks Is Working Hard To Insure That There Will No Longer Be Any Secrets

WikiLeaks Works To Expose Government Secrets, But Web Site's Sources Are A Mystery -- Washington Post

BERLIN -- For an organization dedicated to exposing secrets, WikiLeaks keeps a close hold on its own affairs. Its Web site doesn't list a street address or phone number, or the names of key officers. Officially, it has no employees, headquarters or even a post office box.

Yet, about 30 times a day, someone submits a sensitive document to this cyber-whistleblower to be posted online for all to see. Politicians' private e-mails, secret CIA reports, corporate memos, surveillance video -- all have been fair game.

My Comment: Since its inception, I have always been a reader of Wikileaks. While I have always enjoyed the information that it provides, I am also sensitive to how dangerous some of that information can become if it is put in the wrong hands.

Ssince starting this blog I have always been receiving emails to information that is clearly secret and/or can endanger our troops in the field. For example, 2-3 years ago I was sent an email on how US forces in Iraq were being able to disarm IEDs. I choose not to publish it .... unfortunately .... other bloggers did .... resulting in the enemy being able to determine that their most formidable weapon in the war was being compromised sooner than what it would take for them to realize.

I understand that secrets can never be maintained .... that in the end the public will know. But usually these secrets are released in a timely manner to insure that there is zero chance that they will have an impact .... that there is some thought on the consequences of having this information out there. But in the internet and wired world of today this time span is now clearly being compromised .... resulting in a world where there are (quite literally) no longer any secrets.
