Taliban Targets Afghanistan Peace Jirga -- L.A. Times

In a rejection of reconciliation efforts, Taliban sends three militants to disrupt President Hamid Karzai's meeting with tribal elders. Two attackers are killed and one is arrested.

Reporting from Kabul, Afghanistan — As Afghan President Hamid Karzai pitched the idea of peace talks with the Taliban to a large tribal gathering Wednesday in the capital, burka-clad suicide-bomb attackers armed with rocket grenade launchers tried to breach the assembly's heavily fortified compound in an ominous rebuke from the insurgency to his bid for reconciliation.
