My Comment: Yup .... a country with about 30 million people poses a significant threat against the European Union and its hundreds of millions of citizens. And what makes this worse in the eyes of these European MPs, is that Colombia's Presidency will now transfer to a new President who was democratically elected with approximately 70% of the vote .... while the European Parliament has a history of ignoring referendums from its own citizens who have no interest in joining its body.
I do not know if the Colombian Government is actively undermining the authority of the European Parliament, but I do know that when I look at the mess that the EU is presently in, it is not hard to realize that it is the European parliament that is doing a splendid job in undermining its own authority and legitimacy.
