What does the future hold for the United States Air Force fighter roadmap?

None of the big brains that are supposed to be looking after the USAF want to do much more than engage in wishful thinking. Take a look at the graph below from the U.S. Government Accounting Office (GAO) which displays many assumptions by the USAF. It shows a huge and high-risk downward trend in effective fighting power for the USAF.
