Naomi Campbell is, unsurprisingly, not a household name in Sierra Leone. But that may be about to change, as the British model and celebrity prepares to become a reluctant, and perhaps significant, participant in the war crimes trial of former Liberian President Charles Taylor - one of the alleged financiers and organisers of Sierra Leone's long and peculiarly horrific civil war.

My Comment: I sometimes wonder if this battle against "blood diamonds" is having an impact .... I can only hope that this trial will give some additional exposure on the evil of this trade, and the people behind it.

Watching Naomi give testimony is like watching the Zoolander movie! But I would trust the Zoolander character more than Naomi. I do like the idea of her sitting on Charles Taylor's right hand and then earning her diamonds later that evening, but unfortunately that isn't what she is telling the court. Its rather hilarious how her testimony is relating a story intended to portray Naomi as innocent and naive. Yet the point of calling her as a witness is to demonstrate that the murdering despot Charles Taylor was using blood diamonds out of Liberia. Just say he gave her blood diamonds so we can find him guilty of the charges!
