Defense Budget Cuts Will Not Impact Robot Manufacturers

iRobot CEO Doesn’t Fear Defense Budget Cuts -- Forbes

Colin Angle, an MIT grad, co-founded iRobot 20 years ago and serves as its chief executive officer. The Bedford, Mass.-based company has developed the Roomba vacuum cleaner and the PackBot, a robot that has been used by the military in Iraq and Afghanistan. Earlier this month iRobot announced, along with Boeing, a $3.4 million contract to provide its Small Unmanned Ground Vehicles to the U.S. Air Force. In July the companies received a $14.6 million award to provide the Army with SUGVs.

Forbes caught up with Angle at a trade show in Washington, D.C., this week. Edited excerpts follow. iRobot announces its 2010 third quarter earnings release after U.S. markets close Wednesday.
