Referendum In Sudan May Be Delayed -- New York Times

KHARTOUM, Sudan (Reuters) — North Sudanese leaders said Thursday that it was impossible to hold a referendum on the future of the country’s disputed, oil-rich Abyei region on time.

An official from the south’s main party said it would be “unacceptable” to postpone the vote from the Jan. 9, 2011, deadline set in a 2005 deal that ended Africa’s longest-running civil war.
