Afghanistan will be ready to defend itself by 2014, top Pentagon officials said Monday.

My Comment: When I read reports like this one, I become very skeptical that the Afghan security forces can be ready in ten years .... let alone by 2014. But the White House wants a withdrawal from Afghanistan asap .... and so the public discourse is one of emphasizing positive developments and projecting a confidence that Afghan security forces and the corrupt regime of President Karzai will be able to maintain security by 2014 (if not sooner).
