My Comment: When winter started in Afghanistan in past years, the war always took a back seat with the first snowfalls. The fact that heavy fighting still continues with winter about to start bodes badly for what will happen in the next few months, and more particularly next summer after the poppy harvest is completed.

What is my prediction .... looking at trends I will have to say that next year will be a bloodbath, with civilian/Taliban casualties numbering in the thousands and a near doubling of NATO deaths/casualties from this year.
