Haiti's Cholera Epidemic Could Claim 10,000 Lives



Haiti Cholera Toll Could Reach 10,000 -- ABC News (Australia)

The cholera epidemic in Haiti could kill 10,000 people and cause 200,000 infections in the coming year, a doctor with the Pan-American Health Organisation (PAHO) warned.


PAHO regional adviser Ciro Ugarte says projections show the number of infections could reach 200,000 over the next year.

But he says if the current fatality rate of four to five per cent continues, things could get much worse.

"We may have 10,000 dead," he said, describing this as "the worst case scenario".
