A concert by the 'Afghan Elvis' in Helmand Province has been hailed by British forces as proof of the improving security in Afghanistan.

In one of the biggest musical events ever to take place in the country, pop star Farhad Darya performed last night in Lashkar Gah, Helmand province.

Around 5,000 Afghans were at the Karzai Stadium to watch Darya, who was born in Kabul and now lives in the U.S. and is considered a major celebrity across the Middle East.

My Comment: Just when I am at that point in which I can only say that Afghanistan is a hopeless and backward country in the 7th century .... a story like this one comes around.

This is a remarkable scene. While I only see men in the pictures, I do know that if this continues there will be a day in which it will be normal to have a concert in Afghanistan with an audience that is completely coed .... and on that day you know that Afghanistan is finally leaving the nightmare that it has existed in for all of these years..
