China Calls For Talks As Korea Tension Builds -- ABC News (Australia)
The United States and South Korea have kicked off massive naval war games as China called for emergency talks about the crisis on the divided Korean peninsula.
Tensions in the region have been on a knife edge since North Korea bombarded a South Korean island with artillery on Tuesday, provoking world condemnation and retaliatory fire from the South.
The naval exercise includes the use of the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS George Washington and is set to run for four days.
