BEIJING - Yang Feiyun belongs to an army that the Chinese government doesn't like. Yang's army operates online, obeying few rules. Its members spend long hours in front of the computer, normally for meager wages, posting comments in as many places as possible.

The army, Yang has learned from experience, can change almost any opinion in China in a matter of just 72 hours. The army can cause panics, create celebrities, or push for social justice. It can also cause China's 420 million Internet users to believe things that aren't true.

My Comment: I can guarantee one thing .... the Chinese central government despises these people. The Chinese government does not care if people discuss and complain amongst themselves on what the Chinese government is doing .... but they do care when the purpose is to reach thousands (if not more) with the intent to embarrass or expose news stories that will hit the legitimacy of the Chinese Communist Party.

But as much as the Chinese government despises these web junkies .... they also know that they have very little power (short of switching off the internet) in confronting this cyber army.
