Fleet Will Feel Effects Of Major Corps Cuts -- Navy Times

The Marine Corps was hit hard during this round of Pentagon program cuts, which will carry aftershocks for amphib sailors and other Navy people and programs.

Cancellation of the long-troubled and expensive Expeditionary Fighting Vehicle will bring to an end nearly two decades of work that cost $3 billion in an effort to make what was essentially an armored Dumpster speed across the water at more than 30 knots. The Marines themselves recommended the move — a reflection not only of the great cost to buy and operate a fleet of 573 of the vehicles, but also of a shift in tactical thought that is making the need for such a fast vehicle unnecessary.
