Sudan Referendum Starts Sunday -- UPI
KHARTOUM, Sudan, Jan. 8 (UPI) -- Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir says southern Sudan faces instability if it votes to secede from the north in a weeklong referendum.
Al-Bashir said in a BBC report Friday the south doesn't have the ability to create a stable state or provide for its citizens.
Voting starts Sunday.
After al-Bashir's comments, gunmen attacked southern Sudan's military, leaving four people dead.
