Terrorist Gets Life Sentence For Role In U.S. Embassy Bombings In East Africa -- L.A. Times

Ahmed Khalfan Ghailani is given the maximum sentence by a federal court judge in New York. Ghailani is the first person who had been housed at the U.S. Naval Base at Guantanamo Bay to be successfully prosecuted and sentenced in a U.S. civilian court.

NEW YORK — Ahmed Khalfan Ghailani was sentenced to life in prison Tuesday for his role in the 1998 U.S. Embassy bombings in East Africa — making him the first terrorist to be plucked from the prison camp at the U.S. Naval Base on Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and successfully prosecuted in a civilian court.
