The awesome courage of the first mother to lose a limb serving in Iraq.

As Hannah Campbell, 26, and her daughter Milly, five, wandered around Winchester, passers-by couldn’t have realised how poignant this day out was for the pair.

A year ago, Hannah couldn’t imagine having a day out with her daughter after she was caught in a mortar attack while on sentry duty in Basra, Iraq, in 2007.

Her injuries were such that, despite ten operations to try to save her foot, she had her left leg amputated just below the knee last May.

My Comment: I cannot say that I am surprised. Men and women are different in more ways than one.

isn´t it also a cultural thing? a woman still is expected to look hot & perfect, while a guy has only "to look like a man" <- scars etc make you more a man.. so no wonder it´s different
