Afghan Alert Over Spring Terror Attacks -- Scotsman
POLICE and military forces across Afghanistan are on high alert this weekend to prevent attacks targeting this week's celebration of the Afghan new year, when the country's president Hamid Karzai is to announce a plan for the handover of security duties from Nato to local forces.
Authorities fear insurgents will strike on Tuesday to disrupt the national holiday of Nowruz, which marks the beginning of spring and the traditional New Year in Afghanistan, Iran and other countries of central Asia.
