The modern military has some of the most advanced technology known to man - but RAF pilots on a daring rescue mission to Libya used a black and white Google map to help them land in the desert.

The brave humanitarian crew had none of the usual hi-tech guidance and support as they swooped to rescue British oil workers amid last week's chaos and bloodshed.

Flight lieutenant Stuart Patton was in the cockpit for the nerve-wracking mission - which Tripoli's air traffic control had not sanctioned.

My Comment: I can hear someone in Google saying that this is probably not a good idea since Google Maps are known to be wrong once in a while.
