All Eyes In the Middle East Are Now On The Unrest In Syria



Syria In Chaos Sends Shivers In Region -- L.A. Times

Syria's upheaval is showing the potential to affect issues as broad as Iran's conflict with the U.S. and its allies, and as narrow as water rights. It may ultimately change the balance of power.

Reporting from Beirut — Unrest roiling Syria, a linchpin state in the Middle East, is shaking the region in ways that even the revolution in Egypt did not, threatening to upend some longstanding alliances and encouraging neighbors to scramble for sudden advantage.

Already, the chaos in Syria is showing the potential to affect issues as broad as Iran's conflict with the U.S. and its allies, and as narrow as regional water rights.

Whether or not President Bashar Assad weathers the storm, the uprising is forcing countries in the region to formulate a response and may ultimately change the balance of power.

My Comment: Syria shares a border with 5 countries, of which 4 of them (Turkey, Iraq, Jordan, and Lebanon) are experiencing great political turmoil, civil unrest, and low intensity warfare. From this perspective, it is an understatement to say that the entire Middle East is now undergoing a political revolution, and the fear that everyone now has is on what will come next.
