Not so long ago, San Fernando, a small community in the northern Mexican state of Tamaulipas, was best known for its agriculture and sleepy rural charm. Today, it is known for its killing fields.
In recent days, police have uncovered dozens of mass graves filled with the latest victims from the country’s bloody drug wars. And the figures keep piling up: this week, authorities in Tamaulipas, which borders Texas, confirmed the discovery of another 32 bodies in eight graves, bringing the total so far to 177.
