Sad End For The Pride Of The Royal Navy HMS Invincible -- The Telegraph

Not quite as invincible as her name once suggested, the former pride of the Royal Navy lies stricken on a Turkish beach as she is broken up for scrap.

Chained to the harbour side, her metal carcass is slowly being picked to pieces by an army of demolition workers equipped with cranes, cutters and acetylene torches.

Eventually her 22,000 ton hull will be melted down into blocks of steel used to reinforce buildings and other objects including office furniture.

It is a sad end for HMS Invincible, once the flagship of Britain's fleet whose Harriers were the lynch pin of the Falklands War and also saw service in Iraq and Yugoslavia.
