North Korea's Elite Defies International Sanctions Ban By Importing McDonald's -- The Telegraph
Six million of North Korea's citizens may be facing starvation, but it has not stopped the regime's elite from using the national airline to bring back McDonald's.
Pyongyang is thumbing its nose at international sanctions imposed by the United Nations in 2006 and 2009, after North Korea detonated two nuclear warheads, and increasing its imports of luxuries for its leadership, according to a South Korean government official.
The official told the Yonhap news agency that North Korea spending lavishly on Armani and Gucci, Omega watches, Hennessy Cognac, high-end whisky, Japanese beer and foreign-brand cigarettes. My Comment: Trying to keep North Korea's elite happy .... while the rest of the country dies. A sad commentary on the state of affairs for North Korea and China's trade policies with that country.
