Part-Time Troops On The Front Line: Government To Replace 17,000 Professional Combat Soldiers With Reservists -- Daily Mail

Thousands of regular soldiers are to be replaced on the front line by part-time reservists to save money.

Ahead of an anticipated backlash, Dr Fox was forced to insist the nation’s security would not depend on a ‘Dad’s Army’, but his plans will see the country’s 36,000 reservists – who hold down civilian jobs when they are not on duty – pushed into increasingly dangerous service.

My Comment: Replacing 17,000 regular soldiers with part-time soldiers .... does this make sense? Hmmm ..... I have my doubts.

Not sure how the Territorials stack up to US Army Reservists, but if they do the same training we do, they'll be fine.

I've deployed once, many in my unit have deployed many times. Our Reserve Chinook Helicopter Company out flew the active-duty Marines (Ospreys, Super Stallions and Sea Knights) we shared the air field with in every category except tons of cargo hauled (we rarely got cargo missions). We out flew the Active Duty Army Chinook units in every category as well.

Don't knock 'em just 'cause they don't Soldier 100% of the time - they bring a wealth of other skills with them that often bring excellent results in the field; And the Active Duty Soldiers do an excellent job sharing their experiences in combat with us as well.
