'Our Injuries Won't Stop Us Doing Our Bit' -- The Telegraph

They sustained horrific injuries in the line of duty. Now, a group of British soldiers intends to row across the Atlantic for charity. Adam Lusher reports

The tattoo that runs up Corporal Daniel “Baz” Whittingham’s left forearm will mean little to a civilian. But the Roman numeral tag, which reads “VI I MMIX”, means the world to the 25-year-old soldier. It represents January 6 2009 - the day he was blown up by a Taliban IED (improvised explosive device) in Sangin, Afghanistan.

In the attack, he broke his back and pelvis, both ankles, both heels, “both tibs and fibs”, and his lung collapsed. An ankle infection eventually forced him to have his left leg amputated below the knee – on Remembrance Day 2010. Whittingham can now grin at the irony.
