In Libya, Rebels Close In On Tripoli -- L.A. Times

Rebels maintain their hold over Zawiya, west of the capital, and seize Zlitan, to the east. But the intensity of fighting suggests that the push toward Tripoli will be difficult.

Zawiya, Libya —— Libyan rebels closed in on Moammar Kadafi, pushing back his fighters in a fierce battle in one key coastal city and seizing another town as they advanced Friday toward his remaining bastion, the capital of Tripoli.

The territory remaining under Kadafi's control has been shrinking dramatically in the last three weeks, with opposition fighters moving closer to Tripoli, a metropolis of 2 million people, from the west, south and east.
