Top Afghan Peace Negotiator, a Former President, Is Killed -- Wall Street Journal

KABUL, Afghanistan—Former Afghan President Burhanuddin Rabbani, the official in charge of government peace talks with the Taliban, was killed in his home on Tuesday in a serious setback to efforts to reach a political solution to the 10-year-old U.S.-led war.

Another senior official in negotiation attempts, Mohammed Masoom Stanekzai, was wounded in the attack, in which a suicide bomber detonated explosives hidden in his turban, Afghan officials said.
