Iran Had Better Watch Its Step Now Obama's Chasing Votes -- Patrick Cockburn, The Independent

A fumbling Tehran-backed plot to kill the Saudi ambassador was dismissed as bizarre by the rest of the world. But the White House is taking it very seriously.

The plot in which an Iranian-American from Corpus Christi, Texas, notorious locally for his Clouseau-like dimwittedness, tries to hire a Mexican gangster to assassinate the Saudi ambassador in Washington at the behest of the Iranian authorities has been greeted with incredulous hilarity across much of the world.

The allegations need to be taken seriously primarily because they show that the White House, by giving credence to them at the highest level, is seeking confrontation with Iran in the lead-up to next year's presidential election.

My Comment:
The problem with Patrick Cockburn's analysis is that he conveniently ignores the family connection between the man who plotted to assassinate the Saudi ambassador and his cousin who is also the commander of Iran's Quds Force, an organization that has been directly linked to the killing of numerous US soldiers in Iraq, as well as the organization that funneled to the plotter tens of thousands of dollars to conduct this assassination. President Obama chasing votes .... he (like every other politician) is doing that .... but he is definitely NOT doing that on this case.
