My Comment: This is not the first time that the U.S. has been confronted with such a conflict .... one of the many problems in fighting the Vietnam war were the safe havens for he Communists in North Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos. The Viet Cong and their North Vietnamese allies were always defeated on the battlefields of South Vietnam, but with their safe havens and a lack of political will in Washington for a US ground intervention in North Vietnam .... all they had to do was retreat and prepare to fight another day.

The Taliban have the same thing going for them right now .... they are constantly losing on the battlefields of Afghanistan, but with their safe havens in Pakistan and having allies on the ground in Afghanistan .... they .... like the North Vietnamese .... are just biding their time until the US leaves.
