Barack Obama will unveil plans to deepen America's military presence in the Asia-Pacific region during a trip to Australia, which begins tomorrow.

The President is visiting the country in a bid to boost ties with the U.S. ally and amid growing tensions over the South China sea.

The shipping lane is worth more than $5trillion in annual trade and the United States and has been previously been described as 'incredibly vital' to the region.
