The famously clandestine CIA is breaking its silence to mark the tenth anniversary of the first death of an American in the Afghan War.

The Central Intelligence Agency, based in Langley, Virginia, has asked for donations to help support the children of agents who have been killed while on duty.

Mike Spann, an agent who travelled to Afghanistan just days after the al-Qaida attacks of September 11, 2001, left three children and a wife behind when he was killed following a prison break in Mazar-e-Sharif.
