In a statement about the risks to civilians of insurgent rocket and mortar fire near American bases — a message that was intended for an Iraqi audience and distributed to the local news media in Arabic — the command disclosed that Katyusha rockets fired at a base outside Babil, south of Baghdad, three days earlier had wounded two American soldiers who are among the last several thousand in Iraq.

My Comment: I doubt that most Iraqis will fall for this propaganda stunt .... most will realize it for what it is .... a cheap publicity stunt. The real (and sad) truth is the following .... US forces are leaving Iraq for the simple reason that we are now tired of being the middle guy in their mess. Shiite-Sunni-Kurd factions have been fighting amongst themselves for centuries .... and will continue to do so long after the last US soldier has left.

So why stay?

Thankfully .... we should be grateful that the White House was unsuccessful in their negotiations with the Iraqi government on keeping a few thousand US troops behind. The few troops that would have been left behind would have only been sitting ducks for Iraq's insurgents as well as for radical Al Qaeda and affiliated terrorist groups.
