Copper thieves have stolen a 3ft sword from Abraham Lincoln's burial site in Springfield, Illinois.
An employee recently noticed that a statue of a Civil War artillery officer on top of the tomb was missing the weapon, which had been broken at the handle.
It was allegedly taken from the site at the Oak Ridge Cemetery sometime between September and early November.

My Comment: I first heard about this story late last night, but decided not to post anything on it. But as today dragged on, the more that I thought about it, the more the need to register my anger. Of all the Americans Presidents, Lincoln stands above everyone else. This theft and desecration disgusts me.

if someone is desperate and doesn't know what else to do, of course they will start plundering even the most sacred objects .. and this is of course a sign of the times in the US..
