Why The U.S. Is Holding Back On Its Most Powerful Iran Sanction—For Now -- Yochi Dreazen, The Atlantic

Congressional leaders are pushing the White House to sanction Iran's central bank, which would devastate the country and, possibly, the world energy market.

The Obama administration on Monday unveiled a sweeping new set of sanctions against Iran, but the White House held off on directly targeting Iran's central bank, a hard-hitting move that would damage Iran's economy but risk sending global oil prices skyrocketing and sparking potentially violent Iranian retaliation.

My Comment: The Americans imposed sanctions on Japan's Central Bank when the Japanese Army invaded China in the 1930s .... sanctions that the Japanese used as their excuse to attack Pearl Harbor in 1941. Yup .... imposing sanctions on a Central Bank opens a Pandora's box of suffering and economic dislocation coupled with a lot of political anger. So .... is the West and the Americans prepare to go down that road .... it appears not.
