You're Winning, Leon Panetta Tells U.S. Troops As He Hands Out Purple Hearts On Flying Visit To Afghanistan -- Daily Mail

U.S. troops fighting the Taliban in Afghanistan have been told they are 'winning' the conflict - as thousands more forces are withdrawn from combat.

U.S. Defence Secretary Leon Panetta today told soldiers at a forward operating base in Paktika province, near the border with Pakistan, that they were 'moving in the right direction'.

He said, during his whistle-stop visit that saw him pinning Purple Heart medals to several serving officers of the 172nd Infantry Brigade Task Force Blackhawks: 'We're winning this very tough conflict.'
