ISLAMABAD, Pakistan — With the United States facing the reality that its broad security partnership with Pakistan is over, American officials are seeking to salvage a more limited counterterrorism alliance that they acknowledge will complicate their ability to launch attacks against extremists and move supplies into Afghanistan.

My Comment: What is my take .... the discovery of Bin Laden living in a military garrison town destroyed the trust between the US intelligence community and Pakistan`s ISI and military. Coupled this with militants vacating premises right after the Pakistanis were alerted by US intelligence officials on their locations, nuclear proliferation, open support of Islamic extremist groups, anti-Western media/political coverage, the botched US helicopter raid that killed 26 Pak soldiers who were firing on US positions in Afghanistan .... all of this has became the "fait accompli" in curtailing (if not ending) further cooperation and assistance. After years of aid and acceptance of Pakistani excuses and reasoning .... the U.S. has said enough, and the Pakistanis (in turn) are now upset with the realization that this gravy train is about to end and that they must now face their militant groups (that they created) alone.
