Iraq's Vice President Flees To The Kurdish North To Escape Terror Charges



Iraqi PM Urges Kurds To Hand Over VP Tariq al-Hashemi -- BBC

Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri Maliki has urged the Kurdish authorities in northern Iraq to hand over Iraq's Sunni Vice-President, Tariq al-Hashemi.

An arrest warrant was issued for Mr Hashemi on Monday on terrorism charges.

Tariq al-Hashemi is Iraq's most senior Sunni Arab politician. He says the allegations are "fabricated".

He is currently in Irbil, under the protection of the Kurdistan regional government. The warrant was issued a day after US troops pulled out of Iraq.

US Vice-President Joe Biden has urged Iraqi leaders to work together to avert renewed sectarian strife.

My Comment: The Sunni minority now clearly feel prosecuted .... as for the unity government .... from where I stand it is now dead.
