Is The U.S. Preparing To Intervene In The Syrian Civil War

Obama Administration Secretly Preparing Options For Aiding The Syrian Opposition -- Josh Rogin, The Cable/Foreign Policy

As the violence in Syria spirals out of control, top officials in President Barack Obama's administration are quietly preparing options for how to assist the Syrian opposition, including gaming out the unlikely option of setting up a no-fly zone in Syria and preparing for another major diplomatic initiative.

Critics on Capitol Hill accuse the Obama administration of being slow to react to the quickening deterioration of the security situation in Syria, where over 5,000 have died, according to the U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights.

My Comment: I am sympathetic with the U.S. government`s altitude that they do not want to make the situation worse in Syria .... but Syria is already at a level of a sectarian/religious civil war between Sunni and Alawite, and it is getting worse with each passing day. Countries like France, Turkey, and a good number of Arab states have already made it very clear that Assad should go .... and are pursuing their own agenda in making this happen whether by providing safe havens in Turkey, or sending weapons via through Lebanon to the Free Syrian Army. So while U.S. involvement will shift the situation quickly and significantly, this is still a Syrian/Arab battle with the onus on the Syrian opposition to become better organized in soliciting the support and resources that they will need to win.

On a side note .... while everyone is focused on the U.S., Europe, neighboring Arab states, Iran, etc.. and on what they may do in Syria .... everyone is ignoring the 800 lb gorilla in the room .... what is Israel`s ongoing plans and operations in Syria .... because I doubt that they are remaining quiet and uninterested.
