Photographer Captures Jet Breaking The Sound Barrier

Timing is everything: A photographer captured a jet breaking the sound barrier at this year's Wings Over Houston Air Show

It takes anxious skill, precision, and a certain amount of luck to catch the split second when an airplane this effect - compressed air building up behind an aircraft before it breaks the sound barrier with a loud 'crack - but photographer Michael Ashton-Moore did just that at this year’s Wings Over Houston Air Show.

The unique effect occurs in themoments before when a plane exceeds 741mph to break the sound barrier – the speed at which sound travels.
