American Soldiers and Marines tote high-powered carbines, machine guns and explosives. But many also carry another piece of gear that can be just as dangerous: the camera, which in the hands of Generation YouTube has become a weapon in its own right – one that often backfires.

"This is a generation that not only feels the need to record everything, but to share everything," said Matt Gallagher, an Iraq War vet, author and senior fellow at Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America.

My Comment: Smartphones with built in cameras that can capture pictures and videos is now standard wear with most soldiers. And as a result with this proliferation of technology ..... I suspect that there must be millions of hours of videos (and even more pictures) that have been taken which chronicles the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan in every detail. Can this be stopped .... probably not. Young soldiers have been brought up in the social media age .... and it has become an integral part of who and what they are .... even to the point of freely revealing personal details to a world wide audience on the web .... military scandals included.
