On Syria, Russia Signals The West -- CNN

In a defiant slap at international sanctions against the regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, Russia's arms trading company, according to Russian media reports, has signed a $550 million deal to sell Syria combat training jets.

But Moscow's move may be aimed more at sending a message to Washington than with helping al-Assad.

Asked about reports of the sale Monday, State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland said, "If it's accurate, it would be quite concerning."

My Comment: Western concerns are justified, but requests for an explanation will probably go unheeded.

On the bright side .... pressure on Russia to curtail it's support of the Assad regime is having an impact, with some Russian officials now openly saying that Russia can now no longer support the Assad regime. If these reports are true, they tell me that Russia's intelligence agencies are probably informing Moscow that their own analysis is indicating regime change is inevitable in Syria, with Russia's present ally being kicked out sooner rather than later.
