Italy And Spain’s Credit Ratings Downgraded Again As World Markets Slide Despite Rising Hopes Of Deal On Greece's Mammoth Debts -- Daily Mail

* Credit ratings for five European countries downgraded today
* EU's top economic official: 'We are very close to a deal'
* FTSE-100 down 1% to 5,735, France's CAC loses 1.2%

The eurozone was last night rocked by the downgrade of five countries as the single currency debt crisis deepened.

Italy and Spain were among the nations to be hit by U.S ratings agency Fitch in a bitter blow for Rome and Madrid. Belgium, Slovenia and Cyprus were also cut.

The news comes despite Greece and its private creditors claimed they were 'very close' to reaching a deal over its mammoth debts.
