Forget About The 'Ugly' American, Here Comes The 'Ugly' Chinese Tourist
Insults swirl as Hong Kong residents say mainland tourists bring bad manners and women on the verge of childbirth into the territory, and mainlanders accuse their neighbors of snobbery.
Reporting from Hong Kong and Beijing — At first glance, the newspaper ad depicting an enormous locust looking over the Hong Kong skyline seems like a plug for a horror movie.
In fact, it's the latest slap in the face to the millions of mainland Chinese tourists who flood Hong Kong each year, bringing with them what many in the territory see as less-than-refined social habits in addition to their bulging wallets.
Mainland tourists stand accused of littering, spitting, urinating in public, smoking cigarettes in inappropriate places and other breaches of etiquette that offend the more fastidious sensibilities of many Hong Kong natives.

My Comment: The ugly American to be replaced by the ugly Chinese tourist ... how times have changed. As you can tell, I sympathize with Hong Kong .... Chinese culture and habits can be eye- opening. What's my pet peeve .... cigarette smoke. It appears that everyone in China is a smoker, and being sensitive to non-smokers like myself is low on their priority list. Mind you .... everyone also smokes in Hong Kong.
