Last Letters Of Servicemen Killed In Action Published. -- The Telegraph

A collection of heart-rending letters written by soldiers who died fighting on the front line has been compiled by a military historian.

The poignant farewells encapsulate the final words of servicemen to their loved ones before they were killed in action.

Each of the letters, which span 300 years of fighting, was delivered to the wives, children and parents of the soldiers on their deaths.

They were unearthed by author Sian Price who spent three years reading some 30,000 letters held by museums, libraries and military archives around the world.

She has now compiled the collection of 70 letters in a new book, entitled "If You're Reading This...Last Letters from the Front Line".

Miss Price, 35, from Cardiff, said: "There is something very beautiful about reading the intimate thoughts of these men who knew they could be about to die.
