Troops Could Be In Afghanistan Until Late 2014 -- The Telegraph

The majority of British troops could remain in Afghanistan until late 2014, under withdrawal plans being considered by ministers and military chiefs.

Under one option, only 1,500 personnel would pull out next year while the bulk of the remaining 7,500 would only go by September 2014.

Defence sources had previously suggested several thousand could be withdrawn next year but military commanders are understood to be concerned about pulling out too many troops too soon.

However, the move would revive the notion of a "waterfall" timetable with troop numbers remaining near current levels until late 2014 then falling sharply.

Another option could be for all but 1,500 troops to be withdrawn by April 2014.
