Heavy Fighting Reported Between Yemeni Troops And Al Qaeda Militants

Scores Die in Attack on Yemeni Army Basee -- New York Times

ADEN, Yemen — Islamist militants bombarded an army encampment near the city of Zinjibar in southern Yemen on Sunday, and scores of soldiers and militants were reported killed. Zinjibar is one of two cities that the Yemeni government has sworn to take back by force from the militants’ control.

In the attack, at least two suicide bombers detonated cars close to the post, just west of Zinjibar, and other militants then mounted mortar attacks in what one Yemeni official called a major escalation in the conflict.
