Russia's New And Improved Kalashnikov -- The Gun

Russia has been making much noise lately about its latest reimagination of the Kalashnikov line.

I was at sea for most of the news roll-out, and then was mostly off-line for a few days. I also opted not to write about the new rifle for the NYT, in part because not much about the rifle looks new. As described by its own salesmen, the heavily hyped AK-12, as the latest weapon has been dubbed, looks like little more than a predictable and incremental package of catch-up steps. It’s unlikely to change the line’s legacy, or to be produced in anything like the quantities that have made its predecessors the most abundant and familiar firearm on earth.

My Comment:
I find it hard to believe that they can improve on the AK-47. Hmmmm .... I will be in Russia for a few weeks in the summer, guess who is going to try and finagle from his uncle (he is an senior officer in the Russian army) a chance to "test-fire" this weapon.
