Pentagon Predicts Israel Will Drag US Into War With Iran -- The Independent
Secret US simulation assumes Tehran would retaliate against ships if nuclear sites bombed.
Classified war games conducted by the Pentagon have sketched a scenario in which an attack by Israel on Iran's suspected nuclear facilities would lead to Tehran launching a counter-strike against a US ship in the Gulf. That in turn would drag a reluctant US into a fresh war in the Middle East.
The results of the simulation, meant primarily to test co-ordination and communications between the various arms of the US military in the event of a flare-up with Iran, were reported by The New York Times.

My Comment: The Israelis know that the U.S. do not have the will to start another war in the Middle East .... hence they are now conducting (more or less) a policy that is independent from U.S. input. Will this difference with the U.S. propel them to unilaterally strike Iran's nuclear sites without appreciating the consequences of a greater conflict .... especially if it will involve the U.S. ..... this is something that I do not know. I am sure that the Israeli planners are taking into consideration every option and are planning for it .... but in the end they will act according to their own best interests .... and if the U.S. becomes involved in this conflict .... well so be it.
As for U.S. planners making the prediction that an Israeli strike will draw the U.S. into a wider conflict .... I will have to agree with this assessment. They are predicting that Iran will blame everyone .... the U.S. included .... and will probably initiate terror and military strikes against U.S. and ally targets. In turn .... the U.S. will have to respond. What happens after that .... well .... this is the worse case scenario.
