Syria has the world's biggest stockpile of chemical weapons and its missiles and rockets can reach any part of Israel, the deputy head of Israel's military said.
It is the latest declaration by an Israeli official in what appears to be an orchestrated bid by the government of Benjamin Netanyahu, the prime minister, to pressure western governments to take more action in Syria.
Maj Gen Yair Naveh warned on Sunday about the size of Syria's chemical weapons arsenal and its ability, and possible willingness, to use them on Israel.

My Comment: Israel has every right to be concerned. If the Assad regime is about to fall, who is to say that he will launch a military strike against Israel .... maybe even using the chemical weapons in his arsenal to guarantee the massive Israeli response that (he thinks) would unite the Syrian people behind him to stand up against Israel .... and postpone the civil war that is now occurring.
Is this a crazy idea .... of course it is .... but rational thinking is no longer present in the firestorm that is now known as the Syrian civil war.
